Going Travel Mad for March Madness

March Madness is Taking Over the Country

March Madness is here! All NCAA Division 1 conference tournaments are underway and this Sunday is Selection Sunday for the Big Dance. It’s by far one of the most exciting times of the year for sports fans, especially if you are a college basketball junkie. The excitement of filling out your brackets once the field is announced, getting into some office pools, testing your bracket skills on ESPN and Yahoo’s bracket challenge for a chance to win big time money and trips. And most importantly, seeing if your team makes the field and how far they will advance. All it takes for a team is to get hot, have some luck thrown their way, and who knows, they could become this years Cinderella darlings.

Here’s something else that’s very exciting if you live in Phoenix Arizona, the NCAA Final Four is right here at Cardinal Stadium. The home of the NFL AZ Cardinals will be the host site for this years final four games and national championship game. Oh man, if that doesn’t get you pumped, you might have to check your pulse!

Cardinal Stadium and WestGate are the Perfect Final Four Pairing

Cardinal Stadium has over 63,000 seats available for fans to relax and enjoy the game in. In addition to being home base for the Arizona Cardinals it’s also the host of the annual Fiesta Bowl for the College FBS. Per Wikipedia, the stadium has hosted the Fiesta Bowl, the 2007 BCS National Championship Game, 2011 BCS National Championship Game and 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship a game that it hosted every four years, which set the venue’s entertainment attendance record of 78,603 on January 11, 2011, 2008 Super Bowl XLII, 2015 Super Bowl XLIX, the 2015 Pro Bowl, WrestleMania XXVI, and matches from the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

In addition to having one of the most amazing and modern stadiums in the United States, right next door to Cardinal Stadium is the WestGate Entertainment District. This is an 8,000,000 sq foot shopping, dining and entertainment hot spot. What makes it even more appealing for NCAA basketball fans, in the event you can’t obtain tickets into the final four or national championship game, you can enjoy watching the games from any of the restaurant / bars on site. And once the games are decided, you can bet a flood of excited fans from the games will be stopping by for post game celebrations. It’s a win win!!

How to Pack for an Overnight Bus Tour

How to Pack for Overnight Bus Tours

Whether you’re going on a bus tour of Savannah for Thanksgiving, San Diego for Christmas, or New Orleans in the New Year, the way that you pack for your trip can help you get the most enjoyment from the experience. If you don’t pack the things you need, you may be forced to buy them while you’re on your journey. If you pack too many items, you could have trouble finding what you need when you need it – and your bag may be unnecessarily heavy. The following tips should help you to strike the right balance in terms of what to pack – as well as how to pack your belongings efficiently.

Toiletries in Smaller Sizes

There really is no good reason to buy your toiletries when you’re on an overnight bus trip. Hotels typically provide small bottles of certain personal care items – such as shampoo and conditioner – but they may not have the kinds you generally use or prefer. To be sure you have the lotion, soap, shampoo, and other toiletries you like, just buy them in smaller sizes. Many drugstores sell a wide range of personal care products in travel-sized containers.

Another point worth noting: If you pack a gentle liquid soap or sample-sized laundry detergent, you’ll be able to wash some of your clothes by hand during your trip – and this will enable you to pack fewer clothing items and create more space in your bag for other things.

Clothing in Similar Colors

Instead of bringing several different outfits in a wide range of colors and patterns, try to stay within the same color theme for your bus tour. You might pack a pair of black pants, a pair of tan pants, a black shirt, and a white jacket. Add a patterned shirt and two simple pairs of shoes, and you’ll be able to create several looks from that basic wardrobe. If you want to add a little color and style to your attire, bring some inexpensive jewelry, a scarf, or a belt in bold hues.

How to Pack Your Bag

How to pack can be just as important as what you choose to bring with you. Try rolling your clothing items – this will help to keep them from getting wrinkled, and it will also maximize the space in your suitcase. You can also pack small things in your extra pair of shoes, as well as in the pockets of your suitcase.

What Not to Pack

Be sure to leave valuable items at home. Bringing an antique watch or the expensive ring your spouse gave you for your anniversary could make you a target for theft.

Additionally, don’t pack more than one book or magazine – you probably won’t have time to read it; another option is to download reading material on an electronic device if you have one.

All Aboard American has been chartering motorcoach tours for over 80 years. We are committed to our passengers and drivers. We provide some of the most exciting and breathtaking destinations within our industry, and our motorcoaches are some of the most luxurious on the road. Come book a new adventure with us – and then kick back, relax, and we’ll take over from there.

Motorcoach Travel is Way Underrated and Here’s Why

How many times have you been stuck in an airport only to wait in long TSA lines that eventually have you running for your gate once you finally get through all their poking and prodding? Or what’s worse, you finally get to your gate to find you’ve either been bumped or your flights been delayed or cancelled due to inclement weather. Fun, Fun!!! Unfortunately that’s a part of air travel these days and it seems to be getting worse. Expensive airline tickets, lost luggage, uncomfortable seating, rude people, germs, it’s all apart of the airport and airline experience.

Don’t worry, your travel doesn’t have to include all these experiences. There is another form of travel that allows for a more enjoyable time. When was the last time you considered a travel method that allows you to sit back in comfort while you take in the sights? That’s right I’m talking about motorcoach travel. What, you completely forgot that traveling by bus was an option? That’s OK, even though more people in the United States actually travel by bus more than airplane, but we’ll let it slide this time.

Whenever you read travel blogs or somebody on a travel show gives traveling tips about packing, destinations, airport information, what type of luggage to use, they always seem to forget about bus travel. That’s why we’re going to discuss why motorcoach travel is one of the most underrated forms of travel today.

The Benefits of Motorcoach Travel:

1. Avoid Long Security and Ticket Booth Lines – Security and TSA checkpoints were not invented with the sole purpose of aggravating anxious travelers or to serve as an excuse to be felt up by complete strangers. However, they can be quite stressful and tedious. Not only are you required to remove certain pieces of clothing and walk barefoot on a questionable surface, but it gets worse if you are the “lucky” one whose bag is randomly selected for further inspection. Motorcoach travel usually doesn’t involve long lines or the removal of clothing during security checks.

2. Don’t Have to Arrive Hours Before Departure – When you travel by plane most of us have to arrive at the airport at least 2-3 hours before our scheduled flight. This allows time to check in, give your bags to the airline, then head over to security to wait in those lines, and then finally get to your gate and wait til boarding. And if you’re lucky you might have enough time to get some food, drinks or use the bathroom before your boarding section has been called. With motorcoach travel, arriving hours before departure is not required. Usually if you get there 20-30 minutes before setting off, this is sufficient enough. No rushing to the airport or stressing over missing flights.

3. Free Wifi and Power Outlets – The majority of bus carriers nowadays offer free WiFi for the whole duration of a trip, allowing passengers to fully utilize the time they spend traveling by getting important work done or catching up on the latest Netflix release. In comparison, airlines continue to make you pay more than your monthly Internet bill for the grand luxury of spending an hour online during your flight. What’s even more interesting is many buses nowadays are actually fancier than most airplanes. There are power outlets to keep your gadgets charged, cushioned seats and (once again because it is THAT important) extra legroom. What more can you ask for?

4. The Sights – When traveling by plane all you see is sunlight poking through your small window, if it’s even open. Depending on what seat you chose or got stuck with, your isle mates may have gotten the window seat and prefer it to be closed while they sleep the entire flight. If you do have the luxury of having the window seat lets face it, all you can see are the sun and clouds. Maybe ocassionally you will spot other planes passing overhead or by your flight but usually it’s just clouds, sun and maybe an inkling of the ground 30,000 feet below. With motorcoach travel you have huge windows that allow you to see all the sights around you. If you happen to be passing through a cool city or some gorgeous countryside you get to see all of this. It really adds to your travel experience. Not to mention there’s more leg room to relax, kickback and enjoy the scenery.

5. No Missing Luggage – When flying one of the risks you take are with your luggage. Are your bags going to meet you at the final destination or will they catch their own flight and show up later, or maybe not at all. How many times a day does a flight get delayed but the persons luggage goes off on it’s own trip? A LOT!!!!! People are forced to buy new clothes during their trip because their luggage is going to be a day or two late arriving at their destination and in other cases people are forced to replace the entire wardrobe they had brought because their bags never arrive at all. And guess what happens, the airlines give you the big ol’ finger and tell you that it’s not their fault. No refund on the clothes you had to buy or credit towards another flight int he future. It’s become ridiculous these days. At least with motorcoach travel, regardless of the final destination or destinations in the event you’re on a charter that is going to several stops, your luggage is safe and sound under the bus. It’s with you and not on another one because the bus was delayed. In the odd event a bus charter gets delayed or there’s a breakdown guess what, your luggage stays with you or gets taken out and moved to a new bus. You never have to worry about late or lost luggage with motorcoach travel.

6. Adventure – When traveling to National Parks or traveling to a few different places around the country by bus, you get to experience an adventure. Not only are you getting to enjoy amazing scenery but usually the bus drivers know the lay of the land or the history of the territory you’re traveling through, or to, and it’s actually quite interesting to learn some local history. You also meet new people, exchange stories with one another, this just adds to the adventure.

7. Pit Stops and No Turbulence – One of the best things about traveling by motorcoach is that it stops during the journey for a short rest, allowing you to stretch, get some fresh air, recharge your batteries by getting some food, drinks and hot coffee. For those who smoke you can actually satisfy your craving and have a cigarette or two while at a pit stop. While you’re able to get up and walk around on a plane, it becomes kind of a hassle when you’re sitting on the inside and you have to make everyone else get up because you are suddenly in the mood for a stroll. While bus rides can be bumpy depending on the road conditions and the current state of the driver’s love life, nothing is remotely as scary as being trapped in a shaking metal box 30,000 feet above ground, with no knowledge of when it’s going to stop. Needless to say, there’s no turbulence on a bus, except for the occasional speed bump, but those can actually be fun, unless you’re holding a cup of hot coffee without a lid. Ouch!!

There are so many reasons why motorcoach travel is overlooked. If you consistently travel by plane I recommend taking a break from that and give a bus charter / tour a chance. Go to the motorocoach company’s website, like All Aboard America, and check out their upcoming tours. Pick a destination that excites you and book it. Experience a new adventure and see for yourself why motorcoach travel is much more relaxing, and a completely different, more enjoyable form of travel. Happy and safe travels!!!

Things to Do in Southern California

During the summer there’s always a good time to visit Southern California. The weather is always good, the scenery is always beautiful, and there’s more than enough attractions to experience. Whether you’re into family fun, music, fine dining, or just enjoy the ocean, Southern California has it all.

Disneyland

Southern California has not one, but two Disney Parks! Disneyland offers the classic Disney experience, with Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, time-honored rides like It’s a Small World, and parades to thrill any Disney fan of any age. Disney’s California Adventure brings something different to the Disney experience. California Adventure has more thrill rides for adventure-seeking visitors, a California style boardwalk, and fun new attractions like Cars Land.

Surfing
Whether you’re visiting “Surf City USA,” commonly known as Huntington Beach, exploring the famous Trestles surf spots at San Onofre, or catching some huge waves at The Wedge in Newport Beach, Southern California is always a great place to surf!

If relaxing is more your style then Seal Beach is highly recommended. Seal Beach offers some of the nicest beach landscape Southern Cali has to offer. This beach is never crowded, life guards are always on patrol, the water is refreshing, plenty of beach activities to do, and the cute beach community offers plenty of live entertainment and dining.
Whale and Dolphin Watching

May to October is blue whale season, while from December to May we see gray whales taking their annual migration between Alaska and the lagoons of Baja. Fin whales, minke whales visit us all year, and occasionally we also see killer whales, humpacks, pilot whales, and more! The Southern California Pacific is also home to more dolphins than any other place in the US. Dana Point is an especially great place to view whales and Dolphins. The underwater canyons near the coast of Dana Point are popular locations for the smaller fish that dolphins like to eat, which means more dolphins off our coast!
Crystal Cove State Park
Crystal Cove State Park is located between Laguna Beach and Corona Del Mar. If you enjoy hiking or mountain biking, Crystal Cove is a must-visit! Whether you want a short hike down to the beach to look at Crystal Cove’s impressive tide pools, or a more strenuous ten mile adventure, you’ll find it here. Soak up the natural beauty of California, enjoy sweeping ocean views, pack a picnic, and stay the whole day!

The Queen

A tour on The Queen Mary is a trip back in time. Built in the 1930’s, this ship has been a glamorous ocean liner, a troopship, and is thought to be one of the most haunted places in America. Take your pick of the multiple tours available and don’t forget to dine on board! Some say the Queen is haunted. Perhaps you’d like to visit this old ship during the Halloween season when they have turn this gem into a haunted, floating vessel.
Balboa Fun Zone
The easiest way to take a boat ride in Southern California? Take the Balboa Ferry. The ferry runs back and forth between the Balboa Peninsula, and Balboa Island and the fare is only $1 per person. Get a new view of the peninsula and the surrounding homes and harbors from the water, and spend a few hours exploring Balboa island!
San Diego Zoo & Safari Park
Southern California’s mild climate makes it a comfortable place for many different animals to live. The San Diego Zoo houses over 3,700 animals of more than 650 species and subspecies and is one of the few zoos in the world to house a Giant Panda. The San Diego Zoo specializes in natural enclosures that mimic animal’s native habitats and also features huge free-flight aviaries as well as a rare plant collection.

How to Have Additional Fun on a Bus Tour

Whether you are going on a group tour, family reunion trip, school field trip, or a national park tour, the bus trip could be boring or it could be lots of fun. Getting there provides an opportunity to plan some fun activities, learn something new or just relax. Many motorcoaches have some great amenities that can help with your group’s enjoyment. You can plan for fun in the seats or it can be an educational activity for those school field trips.

Take Advantage of the Amenities

Many buses have on-board entertainment systems. Most coaches have a AM/FM/CD audio system standard along with a corded or cordless microphone for the PA system. Many coaches now have DVD players and some even have a Karaoke setup. These options provide you with several different ways to keep your guests busy while traveling on the coach. The simple way is to bring along CDs to play or agreeing on a type of music and playing a radio station of that type. If the audio system has a jack to use an IPod you can create the perfect road trip playlist! You can use the microphone to make introductions, give important information about where you are going, or just have fun and tell the group a story or joke. If you have a cordless microphone you can pass it around through the coach and allow each person to contribute to the fun. The DVD player can be utilized to just play movies or other pre-recorded entertainment. If it is a school trip; you can show a DVD about the history of the place or another educational recording about it to increase the learning the students are getting.

Play Some Games

Everyone loves games or at least tolerates them. The options for on-board games are endless. There are the standards like Bingo and Horse Races. I think everyone has experienced Bingo at some time in their life. The Horse Race game requires a little pre-planning. You can be real creative and get actual plastic horses or just pictures or drawings of horses attached to a paint mixing stick; you will need six. Give each horse a name or number and you can have friendly wagers on the outcome. The group leader will have a set of dice (each die needs to be a different color). Someone rolls the dice; one die represents the number of the horse that gets to move and the other die is how many seat rows it can move. The people on the coach start passing the horses back down one said and they turn in the back and come up the other side. The first horse that makes it back to the front wins. This can turn into some real fun depending on how fast you keep rolling the dice and have the horses move or how many horses one person can get stuck holding. Another quick easy game to create interaction between guests is a scavenger hunt. You create a list of simple items that someone would have on them or in a purse or wallet. Divide the coach up into teams of five or six seated near each other so no one has to get up while the vehicle is in motion. To make it tougher or as a tie-breaker; ask for a penny from a certain year. A great prize for the winning team is a mini-organizer you can find in a craft section of a store. When you present it, tell them it is because they carry too much stuff and need to organize it which creates a great laugh.

Fun in Your Seats

Maybe your group does not want to be interactive or they don’t feel like listening to music or watching a video. There are still plenty of choices for those types of groups. You can create a hand-out about where you are going or more information about items related to your trip. This can be many pages and very informative or just a quick one page synopsis. Another idea for those who want to play a game on their own is a road bingo sheet consisting of different road signs or other sights you would see while traveling or a license plate bingo game. If they want something different, look at printing some different word games or other paper trivia games. Basing it on the group you are traveling with makes it much more fun. If you have an older group you can create something like a trivia game of old advertising logos, phrases, famous movie lines or a game with different lines from songs. Many versions of paper games exist and can help the miles just float by.
